day 101 - Kicking off 'A few days of different'

When I pondered hitting 100 days I realized it was probably high time I mix it a bit,.. and break my pattern a bit by offering,.. 'A few days of different.'

When it comes to things creative I'd have to agree with our old friend Ralphie who said,
"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds."
['Ralphie' aka Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)]

I've got a few ideas of things to share,.. but just like starting one of my images,.. I'm not exactly sure where this will go. Don't worry, it won't go on too long,.. and I'll likely throw some images in there.. and perhaps even another video or two.

For today, I wanted to share with you one of my absolute favorite books on the subject of creativity.
Orbiting the Giant Hairball: A Corporate Fool's Guide to Surviving with Grace
By Gordon MacKenzie

It doesn't seem to be too widely known.. but I can say with certainty it's worth your time. I found it to be highly entertaining and quite informative. I think you'll quickly be able to tell just from a peek at the cover and table of contents (shown here).

Give it a look, and if you actually give it a read, drop me a note and let me know what you think.

Here's to A few days of different!

day 96 - 'Beyond the Edge'

As I approach 100 days I have to admit-- I'm struggling.
With my focus... How big?, what media?, where to push?,.. do I really want to?

I know deep down the answer to all is-- 'Yes'.

I'll continue to 'show up'.
I'm convinced it's my path.
Overgrown, mysterious, unknown.
Yes,.. Hell YES!

Here's to 96+ !

ps-
OK,.. I'll also offer up-- *one* of my distractions. I'm really anxious to work bigger,.. but I know it would be wise to revisit my surfaces, materials, etc. before heading that direction. The other of my distractions is much bigger-- but I'm holding on to that one until it's certain. Stay tuned.

day 94-95 - 'Nobody's Home'

I'm back in the experimental zone... it's risky.

Tonight it feels like i knocked on the door knowing someone-- something is inside,.. but nobody answered.

Not to worry, I know it IS part of the process. I'm not going away,.. but I am going to bed-- well, at least for tonight.

day 88 - Back to basics

It turns our I left my new camera at my other studio, so it's back to basics-- Good ole' charcoal (on my favorite surface, mylar) and using my iPhone to capture tonight's photo/spirit. The combo of the charcoal I happened to grab and the mylar seemed to work especially well.. too hard to try to put into words this evening, so I'll just let the image do all the communication tonight.

Hmm,.. the thought of, "If only these things could talk." just flashed through my mind-- Wow,.. wouldn't that be interesting!? If anyone out there has any idea just what they'd say,.. or even be thinking-- please send it my way.

Hope you like it-
dave

ps-
I'll update the photo later with my other camera, just so you can see/realize the difference.

86/87

OK,.. I started this one off by labeling it correctly (as 86),.. then revised (to 87) only to discover it truly shouldda been 86... Ahh... I took that to mean I'm tired and I should get to bed : ) But first I at least downloaded a few pics... and put another base down to start the next images.

Anyway-- here are a few sketches to add interest to my working environment. Sometimes I get carried away painting and forget to just draw or doodle.

Which reminds me of something I read the other day about how drawing is a dying activity/ability. Even fields that used to develop and demand drawing is being replaced, or at least seriously compromised by computers. Hmm, I think that's simply very VERY SAD. Drawing serves and develops us in so so many ways other than creating images etc. I won't get into that now -- but I hope you understand where I'm coming from.

Hope you like these little bits.

days 82-85 - 'Night Flight'

I love it when I pull the tape -- it's amazing how dramatic the difference is-- even to me and I do this all the time! (now ; )

day 82 - Too good not to share

OK- I stumbled across and and thought it was just too good not to share,.. I only wish there were more of it!

WHERE'S THE MONEY GEORGE ? from oizo mr on Vimeo.

day 81 - 'My Cry'

I'm not too sure what to say or even where this image came from-- but as soon as I saw the drama/intensity of this image-- and then at one point water and paint running down the surface of the painting (hopefully this will show up clearly in the video when I post it)-- it reminded me of how only we ourselves know our true and deepest self. And even having all of our own 'inside-knowledge' that deepest self can still be elusive even to us.

Somehow it all added up to move me to write the words 'My Cry' into the image.

79 and 80 - 'They're Complicated'

At the risk of willing stepping into catching some flack I'll just come out and say it-- "Women,.. they're 'Complicated". And dare I say all to often very 'difficult' too!?

I (really) don't think I'll get too many (serious) arguments about that,.. but, to be fair, I will have to concede that when things go right-- they're more than worth the effort.

It's been a loooooong time since I even tried capturing feminine beauty and I'll readily admit it wasn't too easy. But I will say I do like where it went. I hope you do too.

Enjoy-
